Learning Through Play

Children in their early years develop essential life skills and self esteem in the most natural and unassuming way during play. For young children there is no distinction between play and learning; they are one and the same. Play fosters creativity, imagination and problem solving skills and children learn using their natural curiosity about the world around them. Language increases as a child plays and interacts with others. Learning through play is a fundamental aspect of daily life here at Green Top. We support the children in play, keeping a balance between free play where the children choose and direct their own play and more structured activity based learning. Our team ensures there is always a relaxed, calm and safe environment for the children to develop naturally, whilst tracking their development to the EYFS and planning for each child's individual needs.

This website will give you a good feel for what we can offer, but we would love to show you round so please feel free to pop in - Tammy and the team will be on hand to show you a day in the life of our Green Top children.

EYFS

At Green Top we are currently trialing dual language observations to ensure that each child's learning and development is based on them as an individual. We live in a very multicultural society and we believe that not tapping into and developing the skills of a child who lives in a dual language family would be wasting their potential.

We have began our trail with 2 of our Polish speaking children and are very lucky to have a Polish speaking parent that is willing to assist us. For the next phase we also have a member of staff who speaks Urdu and Gujarati who will be working alongside small groups of children with English as an additional language and supporting families with language barriers.
